A Taste of the Big Apple

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

Hey Warriors:

The Adventurous Dynamic Duo welcomes you back to “Dynamic Duo Inspired Journey.” This week we are excited to take you on a vacate to the “Big Apple,” New York City.

Our goal last year was to attempt to go out of town once a month and if we didn’t get out of town, we did a staycation. We love New York, New York, so in June, while it was warm, we escaped to New York. Sidney was fortunate to have grown up there and Jackie has gone many times, in the past. We decided to take an extended weekend and spend 4 days in NYC!!!! While there, Jackie would be blessed with meeting more of Sidney’s family and hanging out with them.

There is so much to see and so much to do in NYC, which is known as the #1 Fashion City/Industry of the world. Here's a few things to consider doing and adding to your bucket list, if you haven’t already. Get to Central Park, it's so fun to hop on a horse-drawn carriage ride through this famed and fabulous park. Add a little culture to your life and go to a couple of their museums ( the Memorial Museum and/or the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. Stop in and take pictures at the breathtaking St. Patrick’s Cathedral; it’s absolutely stunningly beautiful. Take a boat tour to the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island; yes, it's time to take in a little of our American history. Guess What? Whatever you need and/or want to buy, you can find it all in New York. Take the subway and walk to Diamond Way Lane and get some great deals on jewelry “The real deal” y’all. Blink, Blink, Blink!

Well, Warriors, on Saturday afternoon with Sidney’s mom, we decided to hit Broadway, and we had a blast! It's true, the lights are much brighter there (even on a Saturday afternoon). We saw the Broadway Musical “Summer,” and this play was/is about Donna Summers, the Disco Queen! It presents the successes, challenges, conflicts and complexities she faced during her life. It was so cool because the show featured 20 of her big hits. The audience, truly, actively, participated during the performance by standing, singing, and dancing. And “Yes”, the show ended with one of our favorite songs, “Last Dance.” Oh yeah, the Adventurous Dynamic Duo got up and danced a little; tell us, who can sit on that jam!!!!!! The costumes were amazing, they took us back to the Disco era, “Doing the Hustle days"; But y'all don't know anything about those days. Lol. It’s was an experience Warriors; nothing like a Broadway play.

While in Manhattan, we had to hit the hot dog stands for a few “Franks,” that's what the New Yorkers call them. We enjoyed riding across the Williamsburg Bridge back to another borough. Saturday evening, we hung out with one of Sidney’s brothers and his wife. They took us to a local casino, where a DJ was playing R&B so we danced and just enjoyed each other's company. Making more memorable moments!!!

We spent time in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Actually, we did a little shopping therapy, while in Queens. Sidney and I always love to buy a new outfit, jewelry, or something from ”The Big Apple.” With our past purchases from there, we never ever see anyone else in it or with it, because of its uniqueness and/ or the NY difference!!!!

Everywhere you go in New York, it is just, people, people, and more people! The tall skyscrapers are everywhere you look, providing you more opportunities to take some really great pictures in the number one city. Jackie loves the many street markets in New York, especially how the fruit and flowers are displayed just outside the stores. You can take in the many fragrant scents as you walk by.

The schedule of four days and three nights isn’t a lot of time to spend there. But, we accomplished what was most important; spending time with Sidney’s family. We can’t wait to go back. Next time, Jackie will be hitting the strip in Manhattan for a little shopping. She loves to wheel and deal, so to speak. Here are a few more tips for your trip.

Tips:

1. Plan on spending a week or so, to truly experience New York.

2. To purchase Broadway tickets, you can go to Time Square at 3 pm and stand in line to get tickets at a discounted price.

3. You can download an app on your phone, called TodayTix and get Broadway tickets cheaper.

4. Need or want real gold and diamond jewelry? The best prices you have ever seen are on Diamond Way Lane.

5. Must experience: Riding the Subway, visiting Carnegie Hall, Strand Bookstore, Coney Island, and so much more. There are many cool places to eat, and pizza is another must have, while you are there.

6. Visiting New York, New York, is like going to another country. A must-to-do, you definitely should add to your bucket list.
