It's the Strip Then the Wonder-1

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

Hello Warriors,

The Adventurous Dynamic Duo is so happy to have you back with us for another, "Dynamic Duo Inspired Journey." The next several weeks we are going to take you to Las Vegas, Lake Mead, and the Grand Canyon. Get ready to have a blast with us and even learn a little.

In mid-September we decided to hit the Vegas Strip and get to the Grand Canyon (the Great Wonder) before it got too cold for us to visit. You see Warriors, we are warm nature individuals, so our desire was to see the Canyon before it started freezing there. Are y'all ready???😍😍 Here we go on an adventure to the West Coast......... It's time to have fun, live life intentional, learn something and see the world. 🙌🏾🙌🏾

We will tell you, the Adventurous Dynamic Duo know how to jam pack a trip and take advantage of our vacation days. Working our bucket-list is very essential for us, we are determine and intentional about living our life rather than just merely existing. We take it seriously to see the USA, as well as the rest of the world. 🇺🇸

Here we go hitting the Atlanta airport on a Wednesday afternoon, off to Las Vegas.🛩 Jackie the semi-world traveler, lol, had experienced Vegas many times prior, however, she was so happy to experience it with Sidney, his first time in Las Vegas. And Yes! Warriors! Sidney fell in love with it. We purchased a coupon through a charity event where Jackie bid and won on a two night stay in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel and a $150 credit to eat at there Center Cut Steakhouse Restaurant. What an amazing deal! You think? Jackie literally only paid the cost of the meal for the entire package. Way to go Baby! Warriors, let me tell you, Jackie was a little nervous, because she wasn't sure she was going to like the Flamingo hotel, she was concerned it wouldn't meet her standards. Lol. But, happily we were pleasantly surprised.🤗🤗

The Flamingo Hotel is a very historical resort on the Strip, been around since 1946, the third resort to open on the Strip. It has a garden courtyard with a host of flamingo birds in it. When you get there the Resort definitely stands out, it is the big Pink Casino/Hotel, pretty much located centrally on the strip, on the "Famous" Las Vegas Boulevard. It is for sure a landmark. It was evening time when we arrived, we checked in after renting a car for our 6 day adventure. Yes! We loved our room, it had a TV in the bathroom in the mirror, Hay! Ho! And a push button to remotely open and close the curtains, as well as, an awesome view. So funny, 🤣🤣we always like to go in our room and open up the curtains to see what our view is going to be. Mysteriously, this time Jackie is pulling at the curtains, looking on the side of the window trying to find the ropes/poles and we just can't figure out how to get these curtains open; until, finally, we look on the wall, way away from the curtains, near the bed, a little button, looked just like a little doorbell on the wall. Yes! It's the magical button, one push with a hold, opened the curtains, two pushes with a hold opened up the sheers. We both laughed 😂😂 and looked around to see what else was up in this joint for us to play with. We truly recommend, if you do not want to spend a lot of money on a hotel, it is a good pick for you.

We're in Las Vegas, where the city NEVER shuts down, so even though we get there late, we get out and walk around on the Strip. It is all lit up with lights up and down the Strip, all of the Resorts are lit up too. It looks like Christmas in September. Lol. There are TONs of people everywhere....TONs of shopping and restaurants. Of course we both forgot our sunglasses, so we are out shopping for glasses, getting in a little grub and experiencing a few slot machines for fun. No doubt the slot machines were only for fun, because they have a habit of sucking in your money and not returning any to you, if you know what I mean. Lol.

Please note, you do not need to be a gambler to enjoy Vegas, because the Adventurous Dynamic Duo definitely isn't. There is so many breathtaking things to do and see. A few sites to take in are: the Wynn Lake show at the Cesar's Palace Fall of Atlantis, riding the Gondolas in the Venetian, visit the gardens inside the Bellagio and the M&M World. How about riding the roller coaster at the New York New York, or go to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Don't forget to stop into the Margaritaville. Take your pick there are shows at every resort, from famous, singers, comedians, magicians, and much more. Do your research prior to going, Jackie always loves to do at least one show when she goes to Las Vegas. However, for this adventure we chose to take in a concert at the end of our vacation. Oh yes, Boyz II Men we are coming after you.

Our second day, we took time out to go visit Sidney's nephew and great nephew. We get in the car and get on the highway and look around, realizing we are truly in the desert. Warriors, not a tree, no grass or flowers in sight, just, rocks as the landscape around the roads. Sidney hadn't seen his nephew in a couple years and this was his first time to meet his great nephew (what a cutie almost a year old). So great to see family and get a few pointers on what sites to go see.

After our great visit, we had to get back to the Flamingo for our reservations at the Steak joint. Let us tell you, that was some of the best food we have ever eaten. The steak was cooked perfectly, just melting in our mouths, with asparagus and a baked potato. Yum! Yum! We couldn't forget our bottle of champagne to kick off the evening. What a treat, we only had to spend money for the tip. Now Warriors, it's time to hit the Strip again, we spent time catching some of the free entertainment, from the volcano at the Mirage to the Bellagio fountains. Remember to check the time for these two cool shows, they were amazing.

The volcano is coupled with choreographing fire and music. A little history from Wikipedia, states, "The volcano includes two volcano systems, a logoon and fire shooters that shoot flame on demand. These massive fireballs are capable of shooting more than 12 feet into the air. It also features waterfalls with surrounding pools including fire and smoke effects. Another exciting highlight of the volcano is it hypnotic music score. Mickey Hart, the Legendary Grateful Dead drummer, and Indian music composer Zakir Hussain worked together to create and perform a soundtrack exclusively for the volcano. During the composing process, the two studied legends, myths and history about volcanoes. As a result, they incorporated instrument from around the world. The musical masterpiece infused chants, percussion and other tribal elements. The volcano's sound recordings come from actual eruptions." The sound was amazing we could feel the rumble and we both got just a little heated up. Lol.

The music with the dancing fountains was so relaxing and invigorating. Majestic fountains they are, with music, water and light. The same company WET Design, that created the volcano for the Mirage also created this water fountain for the Bellagio. Again, let's check with Wikipedia to learn a little more about these fountains. It states, "The dancing streams of water are illuminate from within and jut out sporadically to the pulse of whichever song is playing. They shimmy, twirl and spin--they also happen to be perfectly timed to a crescendo of oohs and ahhs from the surround crows." How cool is this, Warriors! Okay we got two amazing free shows in, now it's time to hit the pavement and check out more Strip scenes. So much fun, but remember, always wear comfortable shoes while traveling, a nice pair of sneakers, will work. 👟👟 You will definitely need them because, we walked all day trying to get in as much as possible. As we always say, to be adventurous, you have to be in shape, because surely you are going to get your exercise in.

A few tips:

1. Google prior to going to prioritize what is a must see for you while you are there. There is so much to see, it will take several visits to get it all in.

2. Download the Las Vegas app to see where the hot spots are and the easiest way to get there.

3. Each hotel resort on the Strip is amazing, so do not get frustrated that you do not see everything, it's impossible to see it all, just savor the moment.

4. Make sure you go in the other resorts besides the one you are staying in, each resort has it's own hidden, secrets to experience.

5. Get to at least one show.

6. Do not be afraid to stay in a lower price hotel, they have renovated most hotels to be competitive with the newer and bigger resorts.

7. It's always fun to do a little shopping there, they have unique pieces to purchase. (Jackie found a nice pair of Italian leather shoes there).

8. Make sure you are in shape for a lot of walking and take a pair or two of comfortable sneakers.

9. A few pointers: use Groupon, Travelzoo, Hilton Honors, etc. to get deals. Try Justfly.com to get a deal on your airfare.

10. Don't forget to purchase and download the book "More of You God" on Kindle and take it with you. Remember, no matter where you go, take time to praise and honor God. He is the answer!

Warriors, as usually we always have a great time spending it with you. This adventure isn't over yet, we still have to take you to Lake Mead to see the Hoover Dam and one of the 7 Wonders of the World............ the Grand Canyon. Come back next week to experience the Journey with us. It only gets better and better, and more and more exciting.
